The OPTIMA project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, asked Sigmaphi to propose proton beam instrumentation to facilitate tests of the OPTIMA Proton-CT imaging system at the Christie Proton Research Beamline.
The two pairs of independent slits have been designed and manufacture to measure and conform the beam dimensions. The first pair work as a diaphragm only, the second pair can measure the beam current, and act as a diaphragm with the capability to stop the beam.
